The Koç School Mathematics Department aims to prepare and develop the mathematical background of the students which will be required in their academic studies in the university.

High School Mathematics Department encourages students to:

  • construct their own knowledge through discovery and experimentation.
  • focus on the process rather than the procedures/calculations in problem solving.
  • achieve relational/ conceptual understanding that is developed in algebraic /numerical, visual/graphical and symbolic aspects.
  • be flexible thinkers to cope with different conditions provided in a task.
  • improve their special abilities.

English mathematical terminology is taught in prep class. 9th and 10th grade levels cover the MEB/national curriculum and students choose MEB – High Level Mathematics or IB Math programme (Standart or High Level) in grade 11.

The topics covered in the national curriculum are:

Grade 9

  • Sets
  • Equations and Inequalities
  • Functions
  • Triangles
  • Vectors
  • Data, counting and probability

Grade 10

  • Counting
  • Probability
  • Operations on functions and applications
  • Analytic Study of Lines
  • Quadrilaterals and Polygons
  • Quadratic equations and functions
  • Polynomials
  • Circle
  • Solids

Grade 11

  • Boolean Logic
  • Modular Arithmetic
  • Systems of Equations and Inequalities
  • Trigonometry
  • Exponential and Logarithmic functions
  • Sequences
  • Transformations

Grade 12

  • Differentiation
  • Integration
  • Analytic Study of Circles and Conics
  • Vectors
  • Counting
  • Probability
  • Space geometry

The topics taught are enriched with technology and in class activities. Multiple choice questions (in Turkish) are also integrated in the lessons to prepare students for the university entrance exams in the national curriculum.
Starting from grade 9, TI-84 plus and TI-NSpire CX graphing display calculators are powerful tools that students use to understand the new concepts and to check their assumptions.
