THE KOÇ SCHOOL

Mathematics

The Koç School Mathematics Department aims to prepare and develop the mathematical background of the students which will be required in their academic studies in the university.

High School Mathematics Department encourages students to:

  • construct their own knowledge through discovery and experimentation.
  • focus on the process rather than the procedures/calculations in problem-solving.
  • achieve relational/ conceptual understanding that is developed in algebraic /numerical, visual/graphical and symbolic aspects.
  • be flexible thinkers to cope with different conditions provided in a task.
  • improve their mathematical abilities.

English mathematical terminology is taught in prep class. 9th and 10th-grade levels cover the national (MEB) curriculum and students continue with either MEB programme or IB Mathematics programme (Analysis and Approaches (SL or HL) or Applications and Interpretation (SL or HL)) in grade 11.

The topics covered in the national curriculum are:

Grade 9

  • Logic
  • Sets
  • Equations and inequalities
  • Triangles
  • Data

Grade 10

  • Counting and probability
  • Functions
  • Polynomials
  • Quadratic equations
  • Polygons and quadrilaterals
  • Solids

Grade 11

  • Trigonometry
  • Analytic study of lines
  • Applications of functions
  • Systems of equations and inequalities
  • Circle
  • Solids
  • Probability

Grade 12

  • Exponential and logarithmic functions
  • Sequences
  • Trigonometry
  • Transformations
  • Differentiation
  • Integration
  • Analytic study of circles

The topics taught are enriched with technology and in-class activities. Multiple choice questions (in Turkish) are also integrated in the lessons to prepare students for the university entrance exams in the national curriculum.
