By means of the curriculum and activities it offers at the K-12 levels, the Performing Arts Department aims; to help students recognize and utilize various forms of artistic expression as a means of communication; to stimulate the creative impulses they will need in every aspect of life; to foster concepts such as responsibility, cooperation, respect, solidarity, and cooperation through individual and group work; and to cultivate individuals who think creatively, experiment, design, create, respect art and cultural values, and possess a broad general knowledge.
Through drama education and an interdisciplinary approach, the program seeks to develop students’ emotional, physical, and social awareness as individuals, enhancing their physical capabilities and enriching their creativity, using their voice and breath correctly, developing their imagination, mastering improvisation and stage techniques, becoming aware of the use of gestures and facial expressions, improving their public speaking skills, relaxing their bodies to achieve an aesthetic posture, and gaining grace.
As part of the Performing Arts program, the middle school music course is enriched with various activities in accordance with the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) curriculum. The course enables students to become familiar with diverse national and international music cultures, build a repertoire of works from these cultures, distinguish the differences in the music they listen to, and develop into individuals with well-honed music appreciation skills.
Middle school dance education encompasses artistic processes based on performance and critical analysis. Through these processes, students develop skills in interpreting symbolic systems, critical thinking, nonverbal reasoning, and expressing themselves confidently in communication. At the same time, they learn to exchange ideas, work together in a cooperative and supportive manner, and interact with others in a social setting. More comprehensively, dance education develops kinesthetic and spatial learning while also increasing the individual's knowledge and awareness of themselves and those around them.
Students enrolled in music, dance, and drama programs are given the opportunity to perform in various arts events traditionally organized at the school, such as Live@Koç, Ramfest Jr, the Sevgi Gönül Arts Night, music recitals, and the Theater Club’s performance, in line with their development and interests. In this way, students are supported to improve their aesthetic view and effective communication with individuals and society through the application of teamwork methods.
