Dormitory Practices

General Information

  • All boarding students and staff will be trained on Pandemic Awareness and Koç School Practices, and they will also be informed about the boarding department practices.
  • Students are required to comply with all the rules in posters in the dormitories and the Common Area and in this document regarding COVID-19 practices and measures. .
  • Boarding students who show st least one of the symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, muscle aches, loss of taste and smell, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, will be examined by a doctor at the infirmary within the knowledge of the Dean. Their complaints will be evaluated at the infirmary and the steps specified in The Koç School COVID-19 Case Procedures document will be followed.
  • Hand sanitizers have been placed at the entrance of the corridors in the dormitories and in the Common Areas.
  • Physical distancing arrangements have been made for students and employees in all common living areas (study halls, kitchen, masjid, grocery store, recreation and TV hall, workshop rooms, table tennis, billiards, foosball halls, etc.).
  • Temperature of boarding students and staff will be measured on a daily basis.
  • Shoes of students will be cleaned with disinfectant mats at dormitory entrances and isolation areas. For this reason, our students are required to wear closed shoes.
  • Medical wastes such as masks etc. should be thrown into the pedal garbage bins placed in dormitories.
  • During the pandemic, no room visits will take place in dormitories. Socialization will only be allowed in common areas with physical distancing conditions.
  • Persons other than the responsible teachers, ISS and technical support team will not be admitted to the boarding section. Cargo deliveries will be made to the responsible teacher on duty.
  • Wheelchairs and stretchers to be used in emergencies will be disinfected after each use.
  • There will be a limitation for the number of participants in group meetings or events to be held in the common area, and areas suitable for physical distancing rules and ventilation conditions will be used in the activities.
  • There are special quarantine rooms, on campus around the lojman area, prepared for the students. If there is a student with Covid-19 symptoms in the dormitory, the student’s roommates will be taken to these quarantine rooms at the lojman area, escorted by the dormitory teacher. The sick student will stay in the isolation room at the infirmary until the diagnosis of the disease is finalized.
  • Quarantine rooms are arranged to accommodate maximum 2 students.
  • Students staying in quarantine rooms will eat their meals in the quarantine room.
  • Since students diagnosed with Covid-19 should not leave their addresses during the time they need to be isolated as required by the Ministry of Health procedures, they will stay in the isolation room in the infirmary.
  • The deans, the infirmary team and the boarding department will carry out the follow-up of the students staying in hospitals and staying in quarantine at home.
  • Among the students staying at the dormitory, those with/developing symptoms of fever, cough, runny nose, diarrhea and shortness of breath, diagnosed with Covid-19 or who have contact with Covid-19 will be directed to the infirmary by wearing a medical mask.
  • Considering the needs of the boarding students, our students will be provided with regular support by the Psychological Counseling and Guidance department.
  • The rooms of the students with confirmed Covid-19 diagnosis will be evacuated, ventilated and disinfected for 24 hours.
  • Observance of physical distancing signs will be expected where the students wait in lines in the canteen and grocery shopping areas, as well as when the students wait to get permission, meetings and snack times.
  • Contactless payment will be preferred in the grocery store and canteen, and in contact payments, the student will be asked to provide hand hygiene with alcohol-based hand sanitizer before each use.
  • During the pandemic, food may only be ordered from outside from the designated food vendors.
  • The time spent in the common area has been arranged according to student density and grade levels.
  • The cafeteria staff will serve packaged products during the snack times.
  • Separators have been placed between the cafeteria staff and students for snack times.
  • Except for mandatory cases, off-campus leaves will be limited, and the leave status will be updated according to the course of the pandemic.
  • The use of the student bus in obligatory cases will be based on the school’s school bus practices.
  • Physical distance must be respected for outdoor activities in the boarding area. Maximum two people will sit on benches in open areas.
  • Students are responsible for cleaning the handlebar and seat of the bicycle before and after using the bicycles. Disinfectants will be available in the bicycle room.

Dormitory Applications

  • The number of students staying in the dormitories has been controlled to make sure there is one person per 6 square meters in accordance with the Covid-19 Pandemic Guided rules, and the number of students in the rooms has not been changed since the necessary spaces are provided. Accordingly, the rooms will continue to be used for four and two students with their current state.
  • Physical distancing rules will be followed in dormitories, rooms, corridors, toilets, bathrooms and working and resting areas.
  • All belongings and furniture in the dormitories have been arranged in a way that the physical distance is maintained.
  • Only the students staying in the same room will be allowed in the rooms.
  • Students will not be allowed to change their room unless there is a compelling reason.
  • In terms of hygiene and safety, it is expected not to consume food products in the rooms.
  • Rooms will be ventilated at 15-minute intervals.
  • Hand drying devices in the boarding area will not be used.
  • Within the scope of the pandemic, hygiene practices should be increased and the rules should be followed carefully.
    • The students are expected to wash the laundry regularly, not keep shoes in the rooms,
    • Store suitcases and bags in luggage rooms,
    • Keep personal items (toothbrush and paste, comb, blow dryer, shampoo, cream, towel, laundry and laundry detergent etc.) in room cabinets, not in the bathrooms and over the sinks,
    • Not to keep clothes out in the open in the rooms and not to use each other’s personal belongings.
  • Although it is not mandatory to wear a mask in the rooms, it is mandatory to use masks in all common areas outside the rooms.
  • In the dormitories, no guests and visitors will be accepted from other rooms and from outside.
  • The use of washing machines and dryers will be arranged according to the grade levels and will be recorded in the usage schedule.
  • The supply of necessary protective equipment (visors, gloves, masks, etc.) for the employees working in the boarding department has been completed.
  • Daily cleaning and hygiene of common computers (keyboard, mouse, etc.) on the mezzanine floors and items such as irons, washing machines, refrigerators will be provided. Students are expected to clean their personal belongings (headphones, laptop, etc.) by themselves.

Common Area Practices:  Kitchen

  • Hand disinfectant at the kitchen entrance should be used before entering the kitchen.
  • Physical distance rules must be followed in the kitchen.
  • The distance between the tables and chairs in the kitchen is arranged according to the physical distance rules.
  • Attention should be paid to physical distance and hand hygiene in dining areas.
  • Kitchen utensils used must be cleaned with detergent and stored in closed and clean cabinets.
  • Before and after the meals, hands should be washed with plenty of water and soap for at least 20 seconds and hands should be dried with a disposable towel.
  • Products such as olive oil, lemon sauce, pomegranate syrup etc. used commonly in the kitchen will be removed and replaced with single-use products.

Common Area Practices: Study Rooms, Reading and Study Halls

  • Study halls will take place in the common area instead of the library. The necessary physical spacing arrangements have been made on the desks here, and the desks are divided by separators.
  • The study hall and work areas have been marked with physical distancing signs.
  • Students will not be allowed to consume beverages and food except for water in the study halls and work areas.
  • In study halls and work areas, students should pay attention to maintaining physical distance during processes such as finding resources and searching for books.
  • Study halls and work areas will be cleaned and ventilated frequently.

Common Area Practices: Indoor Sports Hall

  • Indoor sports halls can only be used by appointment system, for a limited period of time and with a limited number of students.
  • Rules to be followed in sports halls will be posted at the entrance of the hall.
  • The number of students in the sports hall will be limited to one student per 6 square meters.
  • Sports activity increases droplet output and speed. For this reason, physical distance will be applied as at least 2 meters.
  • Equipment such as treadmills/bicycles in the sports halls has been placed at least 2 meters apart from each other.
  • Team sports and activities that require close contact will be carried out in a controlled manner and in limited time.
  • While going to the sports hall, everyone will take their personal equipment (tennis racket, etc.) with them and the materials will not be shared.
  • It is necessary to wash hands or use a hand sanitizer when entering the sports hall.
  • Unless it is necessary, surfaces should not be touched in the sports hall, in case of contact with surfaces, hands should be washed or hand sanitizer should be used.
  • The sports hall will be cleaned and ventilated frequently.
